The museum operates from a downtown location with a museum artifact display, model railroad displays, model hobby shop and full-size trains and operations. The railroad museum operates excursion trains on most Saturdays throughout the year and offers a variety of different themes; both children oriented trips such as the Easter Bunny, Train Robbery and North Pole Express (w/ Santa) and adult oriented trips including Wine on the Rail, Smokey Mountain Moonshine, Mile Long Yard Sale and Fall Foliage. The museum operates to preserve railroad history and artifacts and train the general public concerning safety around railroads and railroad crossing utilizing Operation Lifesaver.
